Why should I use the GroupWise Client?
As you
are probably aware, OIT is currently involved in major upgrades to the Novell
network and related systems. This has necessitated the migration of all users
still accessing their mail on the file-servers to the GroupWise server. In most
cases this does not require a user to change their e-mail client but there are
definite advantages in moving to the GroupWise client for accessing your mail on
the GroupWise server.
Increased Functionality The GroupWise client was written specifically
to interface with the GroupWise server. It is necessary to access the full
functionality of GroupWise such as calendaring, file-sharing and the campus-wide
address-book. Other e-mail packages can connect to retrieve e-mail but cannot
access the full range of services offered by the GroupWise server.
Automatic Backups Everything accessible through the GroupWise client
including new mail, old mail, files and addresses is stored on servers which are
subject to a regular backup schedule making data loss virtually impossible.
Other mail clients generally move the mail off of the server and onto your local
hard disk making it vulnerable to unauthorized access and hard drive failure.
Easy Attachments The GroupWise client offers drag and drop handling of
e-mail attachments.
Improved Support OIT has been using GroupWise for several years and
have a great deal of experience with its use and also in trouble-shooting any
problems that may occur. While we will do our best to help you with your
preferred mail package we cannot guarantee we will be able to fix all problems
will all programs.
Keep Organized Task-lists, reminder notes, phone messages and the
GroupWise calendar are all available to help you use your time better. The
GroupWise calendar provides invite and busy-search capabilities when creating
appointments. The ability to view multiple calendars will be invaluable to
administrative assistants. Other products offer datebook functionality but
without the integration of the GroupWise server its hardly better than a paper
calendar.
Global Accessibility Through the GroupWise web interface you can access
your mail, calendar, stored files, address book and mail folders from anywhere
in the world with an internet connection and recent browser.
Single Client You can use the GroupWise client to POP mail from other
services. This means that instead of logging into multiple clients you can have
all of your mail delivered right to your desktop through the GroupWise server.
