Urgent – Pmail (Mercury Mail) Service to be Removed May 23, 2003
Due to obsolescence, Pmail (Mercury Mail or Pegasus Mail) services must be
discontinued May 23, 2003. This means that on May 23, 2003 your Pmail account
will be deleted. Once your Pmail account is deleted all contents will be lost.
It is imperative, if you have a Pmail account, that you contact the Help Desk
and arrange migration to GroupWise. Your existing Pmail can be moved into
GroupWise.
Plans are being finalized with Novell to upgrade the entire Netware server and
GroupWise infrastructure. The upgrade will occur over the summer months and will
be in place for the Fall 2003 semester. To prepare for the upgrade, OIT must
remove Mercury Mail (Pmail) services from all servers. Removing Mercury Mail
services will have no affect on GroupWise users.
Upgrading will provide a more stable and robust infrastructure, and will allow
ISU to take advantage of new features within Novell that are not available under
the current structure. Between now and May 23, 2003 OIT will provide extra
assistance to migrate all ISU Community members from Pmail (Mercury Mail) to
GroupWise. OIT is in the process of identifying the current users of Pmail and
will be contacting each user to setup appointments to help them move to
GroupWise. Over the next several weeks directed emails will be sent to the
accounts that are still using Pmail asking them to contact the Help Desk so that
a GroupWise account can be created for them. If there is no response from the
account by May 14, 2003, it will be disabled. Disabled accounts will be held
until May 23, 2003. If there is no response from the account holder and the Help
Desk is not contacted it will be assumed that the account is unused and it will
be deleted on May 23, 2003. Once deleted, all contents will be lost.
If you prefer to be moved immediately or have questions, please contact the OIT
Help Desk at IT-Help@indstate.edu or extension 2910.
