FTP Help Guide
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is used to
copy files to and from a remote location or site. Most likely, you will
be using an FTP client to copy your html documents into your department's
web account, or for downloading files to your local PC or LAN account.
ISU faculty, staff, and students may also need an FTP client to download
word processing files, MS Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and graphic
files that a department has made available through their anonymous
ftp space.
Listed below are several such clients that you can use and guides for
using them:
For Windows95/98 we recommend using
WS
FTP or CuteFTP. In addition, Windows 95/98 comes with a text based ftp client.
To access it, click on the Start button, select Run, and type ftp in the
Run box and click on OK.
For Macintosh we recommend using
Fetch.
